Medic dogs

Medic dogs are partnered with adults, children and veterans to assist with daily tasks and increase independence by reducing reliance on other people.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old. If the disability is due to an injury, applicants must be one-year post-injury.  Examples of the disabilities served are deafness, spinal cord injury, epilepsy & seizure response, psychiatric disorder, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, arthritis, PTSD, and cerebral palsy.

PTSD SERVICE DOGS

Our Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Service Dogs are trained to support First Responders and Veterans with C-PTSD or PTSD. These dogs are trained to facilitate wellness and social re-integration in a variety of ways. They provide important physical, calming and grounding skills. Selected for their awareness and positive response to human emotions such as stress, anxiety and fear.

SERVICE DOGS

Service Dog Guides assist Canadians (14 years or older) who have a physical or medical disability. These Dog Guides are trained to fetch objects, open and close doors and appliances, push automatic buttons, pull manual wheelchairs, retrieve medication and provide balance and stability to clients with mobility issues, and get help by barking or activating an alert system.

HEARING DOGS

These dogs are trained to alert their partner to a variety of sounds such as: knocking on the door, doorbells, ringing telephones, timers and smoke alarms. The dogs are trained to alert their partner to what is causing the sound by physically touching the person with their paw or nose.

SEIZURE RESPONSE

Seizure Response Dog Guides are trained to assist Canadians (16 years or older) diagnosed with intractable epilepsy or other neurological disease by performing specific tasks. These Dog Guides are expected to maintain the highest level of  behavioural obedience and help their clients manage their epilepsy.  Before you apply, you will need to meet the qualification criteria. Applying is an intensive and emotional journey you will be required to participate in if you wish to move forward. It is important to understand all you can before making this important decision.
